This is apparently the story behind the odd name:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Our_Town,_Alabama
That reminds me of this:
https://www.google.com/maps/place/Sandw ... 88.6217432

It was apparently named by a guy who grew up in another Sandwich... Sandwich New Hampshire:
https://www.google.com/maps/place/Sandw ... 71.4104696

From Wikipedia: Sandwich New Hampshire was named in honor of John Montagu, 4th Earl of Sandwich, said to be the inventor of the sandwich.

Wikipedia also has a whole list of odd town and place names... quite an entertaining read if you are bored:

When James Cook sailed to the Hawaiian Islands in 1778 the British named them the Sandwich Islands. If the name stuck I wonder what Hawaiians and their language would be called.

Sandwichans? :LOL4:

We have a sandwich place not to far from my house called "Earl of Sandwich". I think they got their name from the guy I mentioned above. Have eaten there a few times... pretty decent sandwiches.

:LOL3: Their language would probably be the Sandwich language or the Sandwichian language!

Earl of Sandwich is actually an English (now British) noble title. The guy you mentioned was John Montagu who was the 4th Earl of Sandwich hence his title being '4th Earl of Sandwich'. It is kind of interesting to think about how if the Sandwich Islands name stuck if those things that we eat with two pieces of bread and stuff in the middle would still be called Sandwiches.

Maybe they'd be called "Hawaiians". :Tongue2:

Also, since we're off topic and on the topic of sandwiches, have any of y'all had one of Publix's subs before? I've had a few and they're quite good!
They/Them for me, please.

All I know about Publix is that it is a store that you work at.
