Re: Google Maps Scavenger Hunt
Well, this'd be a good place to catch a train at, the nearest crossing is used by CSX switchers 4 times a day. The mainline crossing not too far away sees 4 day freights, 4 night freights, and 11 switchers during any time.ToledoRailfan wrote:Kind of an interesting crossing there.NathanFromEngland wrote:Active crossing in Tampa, Florida.

Re: Google Maps Scavenger Hunt
Safetran S-85 gate mechs here:
https://www.google.com/maps/@41.3820268 ... 312!8i6656
Some really long ped gates:
https://www.google.com/maps/@41.399108, ... 312!8i6656
It's clear that this road was originally two-way:
https://www.google.com/maps/@41.3984713 ... 312!8i6656
Same with this one:
https://www.google.com/maps/@41.3986141 ... 312!8i6656
Another S-85!
https://www.google.com/maps/@41.3982585 ... 312!8i6656
Interesting set-up for the ped gates at this crossing:
https://www.google.com/maps/@41.395819, ... 312!8i6656
More Safetran S-85s!
https://www.google.com/maps/@41.5418216 ... 312!8i6656
Also, this crossing has a completely useless third signal (originally meant for visibility reasons) at it as it's blocked by a tree:
https://www.google.com/maps/@41.5417413 ... 312!8i6656
https://www.google.com/maps/@41.5417233 ... 312!8i6656
https://www.google.com/maps/@41.5416851 ... 312!8i6656
Here's a classic but rather interesting crossing:
https://www.google.com/maps/@41.5711264 ... 312!8i6656
It appears that originally, it was just a pair of crossbucks mounted on sections of rail, but then Conrail (or whomever owned the line at the time) decided that they wanted to make them into crossing signals, so they just attached some Safetran 8 inch lights to the rail-posts and ran a cable up from the ground!
https://www.google.com/maps/@41.5711466 ... 312!8i6656
https://www.google.com/maps/@41.5711575 ... 312!8i6656
Another classic crossing:
https://www.google.com/maps/@41.5728065 ... 312!8i6656
A Safetran S-85 ped gate!
https://www.google.com/maps/@41.576181, ... 312!8i6656
More classics here:
https://www.google.com/maps/@41.5850995 ... 312!8i6656
Looks like there was going to be a pedestrian crossing/trail here, but it never happened!
https://www.google.com/maps/@41.5934178 ... 312!8i6656

https://www.google.com/maps/@42.2761807 ... 312!8i6656
A bit of an interesting look on this ped signal:
https://www.google.com/maps/@42.3034151 ... 312!8i6656
Also, 8 inch WT/F cantilevers, not something you see everyday!
https://www.google.com/maps/@42.3033175 ... 312!8i6656
Another pair of them at this crossing:

Been there, seen them. Sadly, you can't record them because they are enclosed in private areas...ToledoRailfan wrote:Active crossing at Disney World.

RACO must've helped out the WDRR.

Along with Disney World, here's the crossings.
1st crossing: 1:36
2nd 2:35
I might've missed some, mainly cause i was skipping through the video.
But why not ask me, i've been on there!

Re: Google Maps Scavenger Hunt
The WDRR is pretty nice if you ask me. I definitely recall seeing the RACO wayside signals along the tracks when I went there.
Crossing pictures from Plant City, FL are finally here! viewtopic.php?f=13&t=2538
