If I had to guess they severed that gate from the electric system after turning the whole crossing system off and then lowering the gate manually or something like that. They could have also activated the crossing and then severed it from the system at the time of day when the line isn't that busy.

I'd probably say around ten years, looks to be in too good of shape to have been there for 20+ years. The crossing was probably passive but that crossbuck for whatever reason wasn't removed when the crossing was upgraded.

Probably lights up the whole area at the night. I wonder how cheap it is to live there.
