That's not the relay case. It's probably a box to keep all the wiring from being exposed to the elements.

That crossing there is pretty nice, IMHO. The bracket was an old WRRS/GRS product, I believe.

Woodings Railcar it looks like. Interesting seeing that on a US crossing, as, IIRC, the company is/was Canadian!

Yeah, I like that way too. It does make me wonder why NS has been closing off crossings along this line... probably because of how busy the roads are and how many trains this line sees. :Sneaky:

Also less maintenance on NS's part, given how NC requires all crossing Amtrak runs through to be quad-gated.

Why is that? Have there been enough accidents to require it, or does Amtrak go faster through the state?

Not entirely sure, all that I know is that it's just required.
