Looks like Google finally got around to the Blissfield crossing after the signals were replaced. Its sad that those historic signals were removed.

8-inch lights?! I thought those were outlawed on new public grade crossing installs/upgrades

Just a curiosity thing...I'm actually quite glad to see that the signal still at least has 8" lights and not 12x20" nor 12x24" lights :TUP1:
Crossing pictures from Plant City, FL are finally here! viewtopic.php?f=13&t=2538

They probably put them in because they re-used the old signals and 8 inch lights are "grandfathered in" for modern set-ups. New equipment can be set-up in the old set-up as far as I can tell if the old set-up was like how the new stuff is.
For example, the MUTCD has outlawed one signal per direction set-ups at intersections for a long time. However, in Albertville, AL, there is an intersection with one traffic light cluster suspended over the intersection. This same intersection used to have a 4-way traffic light at it.
They/Them for me, please.

I see they took out the little red lights to help keep the bases from getting hit at night. That's another thing that made those signals unique.

I hope they kept the signals somewhere and did not have them scrapped.

I believe that there's a video of that crossing somewhere on YouTube.
Also, here's how it looked before: https://maps.google.com/maps?ll=26.7060 ... 7&t=h&z=12
(BTW, I count three mechanical bells on the old crossing.
