Maybe a bit of the original gate broke off and they had to replace it with a bit off a newer red and white gate.

That, or the red section needed a new coat of paint so they used red paint instead of black paint.

Found a black and white wishbone gate at Evanston Gardens in South Australia. Sadly, the gate was gone the next time GSV went through the crossing.

Wow, talk about a perfect optical illusion.
I thought I had passed that crossing several times while searching through Streetview, I had just assumed it was a different crossing.

The image is from 2011... and unfortunately, based on the satellite view, I'm thinking it may be gone. I think the shadow would look a bit different.

Yea, it's most likely gone based on the shadow. Looking at the one on street view, it'd be obvious by the fact that there'd be two shadows that joined together.

I can confirm that a third crossing in Melbourne still has a wooden B&W gate! It's at Oakover Road in Preston. Here's a video of it from this month!
