How long has it been abandoned?TheSignalMan2000 wrote:Here's 2 crossings I took on Choctaw Dr. in Baton Rouge, Louisiana that are out of service, I would of taken more pictures of these 2 crossings, but it was pouring down the rain and never got a chance to get more pictures done
Note, the top picture, it's missing a crossbuck on the eastbound direction (the direction I was traveling) and the line was abandoned

Wow, the R.O.W. of that spur is completely plowed under on the other side of the crossing! Very difficult to trace where it went!

Re: Tracks out of service
Amarillo, TX
Where the active line ends:
https://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&ll=3 ... 4&t=h&z=20
Abandoned bridge:
https://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&ll=3 ... 2,,0,-8.69
The tracks used to cross this intersection:
https://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&ll=3 ... 8,,0,12.64
A section of the ROW has been turned into "The Rock Island Rail Trail".
Further along the ROW There are markings for the crossing that no longer exists.
https://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&ll=3 ... 3,,0,25.46
https://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&ll=3 ... 1,,0,14.38
The remains of the crossing mentioned above:
https://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&ll=3 ... 4,,0,18.34
https://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&ll=3 ... 8,,0,24.48
Another abandoned bridge:
https://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&ll=3 ... 8,,0,-1.67
Found the remains of a signal and some rails:
https://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&ll=3 ... 15,,0,5.09
I think another signal stood here:
https://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&ll=3 ... 16,,1,16.2
Abandoned crossing on an abandoned spur. The rails are still in place:
https://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&ll=3 ... 39,,1,6.45
The ROW crossed here:
https://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&ll=3 ... 2,,0,13.79
Bridge remains:
https://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&ll=3 ... 1,,0,-0.18
Dallas, TX
Abandoned crossing that was part of a small warehouse line as it appears:
https://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&ll=3 ... 16,,0,0.82
https://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&ll=3 ... 67,,0,4.07
https://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&ll=3 ... ,6.79&z=20
https://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&ll=3 ... ,8.59&z=20
Another abandoned crossing on a different line:
https://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&ll=3 ... ,2.28&z=19
https://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&ll=3 ... ,7.99&z=19
https://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&ll=3 ... 13.43&z=19
https://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&ll=3 ... -2.85&z=19
The track ends after these crossings, of which I am not even sure are in use anymore:
https://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&ll=3 ... ,6.85&z=20
https://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&ll=3 ... ,1.55&z=20
Quite obviously abandoned:
https://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&ll=3 ... ,5.41&z=21
https://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&ll=3 ... 12.35&z=21
https://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&ll=3 ... 11.89&z=21

Re: Tracks out of service
That Amarillo map satellite view shows a train just north of the end of the line!
https://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&ll=3 ... 2&t=h&z=21
There seems to be a lot of activity at what appears to be a BNSF yard nearby, as well.
