Re: Google Maps Scavenger Hunt
Active crossing in Canada:
https://maps.google.com/maps?q=53.19784 ... 5,,0,-0.53
Looks like there used to be a bell mounted on this signal:
https://maps.google.com/maps?q=53.19836 ... ,,3,-11.01
Some rather short classic crossing cantilevers:

Re: Google Maps Scavenger Hunt
I have to wonder why the mast lights on this signal are turned towards the tracks:
https://maps.google.com/maps?q=35.99950 ... 5,,0,-6.67
Crossing in the process of being upgraded:
https://maps.google.com/maps?q=36.41000 ... 3,,0,-0.94
I have to wonder what the extra pair of lights are for on this crossing. It reminds me of Anderson Street in Valley Head, AL.
https://maps.google.com/maps?q=35.99950 ... 5,,3,-2.93
Why is this crossbuck here?

Re: Google Maps Scavenger Hunt
Here's a rather odd sign.
The other side still shows what it used to be.
Streetview caught a pair of signal maintainers at this crossing. One of them is waving and the other is giving a rather obscene gesture.
4 gated signals at this crossing, with not one bell in sight. A true Conrail classic!
A semaphore!
Some very classic signals here!
One signal wonder.
Ex-Santa Fe engine.
Some more classic crossings:

Active crossing in rural Indiana:
https://www.google.com/maps/@41.070979, ... wjTfNw!2e0
...one of the gate lights has worked itself loose. There appears to be no train in sight and it looks like the google car drove around the gates:

Souderton, Pennsylvania. The bell on this signal has dislodged itself somehow: https://www.google.com/maps/@40.317707, ... D5Qw-w!2e0
And check this out... fairly certain that this picture from 1974 shows the same signal: http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.p ... 72&nseq=66. Of course, it has been painted a few times, no longer has an "A" gate, and has newer lights. Appears it may have a different bell now also.
Nice to see the track signal still there too... although it is no longer in use.

Re: Google Maps Scavenger Hunt
These lights are a bit close:
https://maps.google.com/maps?ll=40.7991 ... 72,,0,0.76
Active crossings:
https://maps.google.com/maps?ll=36.8627 ... 45,,0,1.58
https://maps.google.com/maps?ll=36.8658 ... 12,,0,4.91
This crossing is also on the site, but the WCH m-bell has been replaced with a Safetran Type 3 since Kight took those pictures according to Streetview.
https://maps.google.com/maps?ll=36.8674 ... 9,,0,-3.33
A rather interesting crossing:
https://maps.google.com/maps?ll=36.8593 ... .5,,0,0.23
7 track crossing:
https://maps.google.com/maps?ll=36.6428 ... 61,,0,2.22
Here's another odd crossing. It's a more modern CSX crossing with two bells, but one of the bells is on a gated signal and the other is on a gateless signal. I have to wonder how the bells operate here.

Re: Google Maps Scavenger Hunt
Check out the satellite view of this deep crossing: https://www.google.com/maps/place/33%C2 ... :0x0?hl=en. There is only one track... but due to the curve the signals are over 300 feet apart (more than a football field)!
There is Streetview, but it is old and grainy... the satellite view shows it much better.

Hmmm??? Could this be coming to the US one day? http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.p ... 25&nseq=15
I sure hope so!
