Looks like the bells are Level crossing E-Bells without the outer protection.

They've also got level crossing-like signals at the entrances to the Domain and Burnley tunnels which activate when there's an emergency inside the tunnel.

You might want to check your first link.

Also, are you sure that those are "e-bells" and not some antenna of some kind?

That's a standard traffic light cap (used to protect the internal wiring from the elements), used at most regular intersections. It's not an E-Bell. Here's an example at Werribee:

That's a great list! :TUP1: I believe most of these bells still exist today (except one of the Westinghouse Hybrids at Poplar Road, Parkville is dead and the other is beginning to play up).

There's also some Westinghouse Hybrid Bells at Maidstone Street, Altona (the last crossing in the video on page 1) :

Those barrier gates reminds me of the ones that are (or used to be) in Wisconsin. viewtopic.php?f=18&t=2802&p=18778&hilit ... tes#p18591

That 2nd set of gates on the bridge appear to interlock with each other. Would be interested to see how that works.

Thanks for the additions, have you noticed that most of the crossings on the list I made are on the removal list? The recently grade separated crossings at North Road in Ormond and Centre Road in Bentleigh had Westinghouse bells too, not to mention the Burke Road tramsquare crossing in Glen Iris also had them too.
What I think of crossing removals in general: https://youtu.be/kJGDN3_LyQE?t=86

Speaking of Poplar Road, here's a video of the crossing in the early 90's with McK&H Teardrop bells, black striped barriers, and green MET Comeng trains passing through it :TUP1: : https://youtu.be/lfo2297mE7E?t=20
Also included is the old Spencers Street station, the Riverside tramway crossing, a lot of Melbourne trams, and a ride on the now retired Hitachi trains. :TUP2:

Found this photo of the Main Street crossing in Pakenham from possibly the 40's or 50's. Take a look at the crossbuck! The letters are all thick and bold. I've never seen anything like it before!

That crossbuck almost looks homemade! You did well to find that.

Here are some other finds.

This video from 1991 shows a light rail tram crossing in South Melbourne with a Westinghouse Hybrid Bell:

The crossing today has Barker Technics Electronic Bells and L.E.D traffic lights:
https://www.google.com.au/maps/@-37.839 ... 312!8i6656
https://www.google.com.au/maps/@-37.839 ... 312!8i6656

The crossing activated with a tram:
https://www.google.com.au/maps/@-37.839 ... 312!8i6656

Another nearby tram crossing with Barker Technics E-Bells:

https://www.google.com.au/maps/@-37.837 ... 312!8i6656
https://www.google.com.au/maps/@-37.837 ... 312!8i6656

A gated tram crossing:

https://www.google.com.au/maps/@-37.834 ... 312!8i6656

And another:
https://www.google.com.au/maps/@-37.832 ... 312!8i6656
https://www.google.com.au/maps/@-37.831 ... 312!8i6656

A gated crossing without bells:

https://www.google.com.au/maps/@-37.840 ... 312!8i6656

Something you don't see often, an E-Bell replacing an E-Bell. In 2007 this crossing in Geelong had a set of Barker Technics E-Bells, but by 2015 they've been replaced by Safetran (Siemens) Type 3 E-Bells.
2007:

https://www.google.com.au/maps/@-38.151 ... 328!8i1664

https://www.google.com.au/maps/@-38.151 ... 312!8i6656

The same thing happened at Upfield.
2009:
https://www.google.com.au/maps/@-37.666 ... 312!8i6656
https://www.google.com.au/maps/@-37.666 ... 312!8i6656

https://www.google.com.au/maps/@-37.666 ... 312!8i6656

I don't see that point of that.

Usually it's done when an e-bell dies.
