I'm guessing by the 1980s with 1970s likely being the earliest for them. Though they probably existed only as pedestrian gates long before that.TrickyMario7654 wrote:I have a question. When did they start making 'flat' gates?

Thanks for answering that question...freebrickproductions wrote:I'm guessing by the 1980s with 1970s likely being the earliest for them. Though they probably existed only as pedestrian gates long before that.TrickyMario7654 wrote:I have a question. When did they start making 'flat' gates?
I'm pretty sure that they didn't appear here until around the late 90's (I presume). In fact, I'm pretty sure red and white striped gates didn't even exist before the 90's! (At least in Victoria.)
Metro, why do you keep removing Mechanical bells?!

Re: A-frame/Wishbone gate locations
Agree with those time frames. I was a youngster, but started noticing "flat" gates more when I was 10, which would have been 1980. For instance, I remember that this signal was installed around that time, and it would have never worked with an A frame gate.TrickyMario7654 wrote:Thanks for answering that question...freebrickproductions wrote:I'm guessing by the 1980s with 1970s likely being the earliest for them. Found this baby one in Jackman, Maine. The image is from 2011, so it's hard to know for sure if it is still there.

Re: A-frame/Wishbone gate locations
Actually, they're slightly more easiler to find down here. It varies from state to state though. The easiest place to find them is Metropolitan Melbourne, were every single crossing on Metro tracks have them. (Including at least few with black and white gates)ZachL wrote:A-frame gates are common in Australia, JSYKLARDLOGO wrote:Here's some in Maylands, Australia
