Re: Google Maps Scavenger Hunt
Looks like Google Street View caught 32nd Street in Birmingham in action with Amtrak going through:

Re: Google Maps Scavenger Hunt
I'm sure this was posted on the forum awhile back. If not, then it was something similar. I came across this over the weekend. It's about 50 miles from where I live now: https://www.google.com/maps/@27.225288, ... 6656?hl=en
Rails to trails... and they re-purposed the signals! Pretty good bet those are the same signals that protected the road at one point. Check out the Streetview picture from 2007: https://www.google.com/maps/@27.2253783 ... 1664?hl=en. They were just tearing up the crossing then and the signals where still in their old position. Very Nice!
Same thing was done at the next crossing north, although the signals are further back off the road and not easily seen: https://www.google.com/maps/@27.2443604 ... 6656?hl=en;
https://www.google.com/maps/@27.2444199 ... 6656?hl=en
Here is the "Old" view: https://www.google.com/maps/@27.2443401 ... 1664?hl=en. This one supports my theory that they re-used the same signals as the mast on the left side just had lights on one side, which is the same way it looks on the trail now.

Found a couple of ancient cantilevers still in service in Lansdale, PA:
https://www.google.com/maps/@40.2496283 ... 56!6m1!1e1
Here too: https://www.google.com/maps/@40.2423564 ... 56!6m1!1e1. This crossing is a bit odd, it has a total of 5 gates (including one for the turn lane out of the train station), but lights only on the 2 cantilevers.

A couple of active crossings in Pascagoula, MS:

Also, CSX replaced the e-bell at this crossing with a mechanical bell!

Chesnut Ave, Hillside, NJ: CSAO Local with CSX 4415 (GP40-2) leading (Yes it's that clear despite the distance the train is away from the crossing):

Here are some odd cantilevers in Claymont, DE. They appear to use traffic light mast arms like the ones at Hobbs Road and Mountain Gap Road here in Huntsville.

That is a weird place to put the "Stop on Red Signal" sign. https://www.google.com/maps/@46.0872679 ... 1664?hl=en
----------------------------------------------
Here is one of those signals that has a second pair of lights on the top of the signal. https://www.google.com/maps/@45.5359241 ... 1664?hl=en

The other signal is the same way too, from the looks of it:ToledoRailfan wrote:That is a weird place to put the "Stop on Red Signal" sign. https://www.google.com/maps/@46.0872679 ... 1664?hl=en

Also, I'm surprised no-one's mentioned this earlier, but this thread has reached 100 pages!

Yes, I saw we had reached 100 pages... nice!
I found this active crossing here in Tampa, right where CSX enters the port of Tampa. The road is called Tamiami Trail, with the opposite side of the road having a "bridge" catilever: https://www.google.com/maps/@27.9182885 ... 6656?hl=en

Re: Google Maps Scavenger Hunt
Here's the crossing on Brock Road deactivating after a local went past:
https://www.google.com/maps/@34.7399193 ... 1664?hl=en
A few steps back and here's the power for the local. Appears to be an ex-UP engine and a high-hood:
