my mother told me one time she was coming up to a crossing and the gates were down and the guy in front of her didnt slow down, just went right through the crossing and the gate went flying.

Go to 4:35. If you care to watch the whole thing, go ahead. At 3:45 the gates go down, but only to go back up again at 4:23. From Skyman2002. Here's the crossing on Mike's site:

well as guess as long as were telling stories
in my life so far ive seen a total of
2 gates sprung
1 gate get broke
and at least 2 times where gates have hit vehicles

the first gate i saw get sprung was while i was riding the MetroLink
http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&ie=UT ... 57,,2,-2.8
it had gs springs back when i saw it get hit and it looked just like this spring gate video

i believe it has NEG gate savers now

the second time was also on MetroLink there was a two lane gs spring gate and this time it didnt save the gate the gate busted in half
kinda like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L5TG-gDNKu0
i think that was at this rr xing
http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&ie=UT ... 6,,0,-6.04

and some crossing in st louis area forgot which one i saw a small delivery truck snap a gate off it had a break away adapter and it worked fine
the train was also going slow enough to stop and removed the gate from the tracks

next up at Kirkwood
Image
seen this gate smack a car it was the funnest thing ive seen

finally in Webster Groves Mo
Image
this gate got hit 5 years ago and still is messed up
A driver of a vehicle panicked when the signals activated, and the driver stopped on the tracks. The driver then tried to back up, bending the gate towards oncoming traffic.
the gates bent but everything else looks fine

well thats it those are the gate contact stories i have

This one has it all - a broken gate, a missing gate, and flashing lights even though there does not appear to be a train in sight: Street view in Goshen, CA outside of Visalia.

Any ideas what happened here?
