Not quite sure of the exact history, but i think BCRail came up with that scheme.
Nice video, BTW, you sure get some interesting power in Pine Bluff.

I saw two BCOL units in Duplainville Sunday 2/7, one C40-8M and one C44-9WL, plus with a similar CN C40-8M leading a train.
CN also has EMD cowl units (SD50F and SD60F) and CP has SD40-2Fs.
One thing most Canadian diesel locomotives have in common which I like is the bell hung right front and center above the cab windows. Crews don't like it because it gets loud in the cab, but it's also audible a greater distance in front of the locomotive.

Yeah, now I know why the bell was put on all the Pan Am GP40-2W's becuase they were ex CN.

I believe that was a Transport Canada requirement for many years.
