The former New Dock St. crossing in San Pedro had that same kind of configuration. Two tracks crossing in a "X" formation.

I maintained it for a while, and also rode the train through it once as well. A weird setup indeed. Two seperate crossing cases, but they are intereconnected together. Island only on the crossing as well, which means the signals won't activate until the train is about 20-30 feet from the road, so it's a stop and proceed for the train.

What a confusing intersection! Would love to see a video of a train moving through there.
