I think it is interesting that there is a cantilever but no gate.

I can see why they did this. There is no place to put a mast signal on the right side of the gravel road. I'm glad there's not gate. How would you like to be stuck behind a gate if you were on the gravel road and wishing to turn left (not crossing tracks).

If a signal is really that necessary, couldn't they just put a mast signal instead of a cantilever? Or sidelights on the gate mast? Just seems like a waste.

thats what i was thinking, it would have made more scene, but maybe that road gets more traffic then we think.
