Old signal in Colorado.

Check out this old signal!

It looks like the lights are those GRS lights with the 8" front and the smaller lights in the back (The ones with only 1 light bulb.)

Also, check out the steep incline in the tracks right before the crossing.

What do you mean: "1 light bulb".?

Have never seen a "1 track" sign before. Joke?

The Lights i am thinking of have one light bulb and a reflector like a normal light. but a hole in the reflector so the rear light lights up without another bulb.

BTW. 1 track signs are common on the NS

Here is a picture of an NS crossing in Springfield with a 1 track sign

How interesting.
So, if the sun rises or sets behind an east or west-oriented lamp, light could shine through?
Never heard of such a lamp.
My WigWag signal has the same defect in design - one bulb between the two red lens: (*)
Also interesting seeing Triple Crown train. Such little distance between cars makes a more aerodynamically-slippery train.

As far as the false illumination goes, GRS XB and XD lights have a reflector like a standard light head except that they have a hole in the middle. If there was still an issue with light shining through the backlight assembly they would install a Phankill unit. A Phankill unit minimizes illumination by reflection from an external light.

Just a little bright sunlight passing through the reflector'small port could make the light appear to be on. Sunlight is very powerful.
How does the Phankill unit work?

Why did they install bird nest foundations on the lamps pictured?
