When I ask this, please understand the obvious concern with our (potential puchasers) liability here, so.... how did you obtain a new in the box gate mechanism?

"Liability", as in the form of Law Enforcement potentially locking someone up for receiving stolen property, not for suitability or fitness of use, but that brings up a question or two also.

I did not imply one way or the other that what you are offering is legitimate or not, I was just stating that it is an issue worth discussing, considering the nature of Railroad property and how something of that value that is "brand new" isn't just disposed of on a frequent basis, and arouses suspicion whenever offered for sale to the general public. (Try taking some tie plates, joint bars or spikes to the scrap yard or pawn shop sometime and tell us how that went)

However, Railroads and Railroad contractors alike do order more than they need on a regular basis, which is normal, and every once in a while, it will all pile up, and then they will "Clean house" and in the process, throw away perfectly good supplies. I have seen it happen so many times. Except the disposed items are supposed to be destroyed, scrapped, etc. (Unless you know someone)

Anyayway, glad you can obtain items such as these for your collection, if what you are saying is true, that sounds logical to me, I have obtained items like this from time to time also. I assume your friend no longer does work for Railroads?

.....I am curious though, why do you desire to profit so much on the gate mech, if it was given to you, and you're interest is sharing your collection out of the goodness of your heart? Fair market value and such shouldn't really matter in this case, since you aren't selling for Railroad use, on a public grade crossing. Right?
