Alaska Has Strange Things...

Let's see how many times this picture will be posted to the forum before people see it's already been posted here. In all seriousness though, this is a strange one for sure.

Here is a Street View of the area. The street view car went int when it was 12:00, he came out when it was 12:30! That is a long wait time considering it should take roughly 5:30 minutes to get through it.

I don't think I have seen that here on this forum before. That is just crazy... cars and trains sharing the same tunnel. And they are using the crossing gates to control the one way traffic through the tunnel when a train is not present? Wow!

Edit: There are quite a few video's of this tunnel on Youtube. I found a decent one that shows not only the tunnel, but also a train entering the tunnel. It does not appear the gate lights on these "signals" do anything... unless they only work at night?

Also, from the video below... those signs indicate when a train is in the tunnel. They also tell when your side of traffic is going to get to go. So I'm guessing that the Streetview picture that has the 12:30 in it is actually the next time that particular side is going to get to go (since the Streetview car is coming out of the tunnel). It is not the current time.

Yes, yes, and yes. The gates control traffic weather or not a train is present. The lights are just standard traffic signals. The traffic rotations in the tunnel, (except when maintenance is being performed) are on 30 minute cycles. 30 minutes for one lane of traffic, 30 minutes for the other lane of traffic, 30 minutes for railroad traffic, repeat.

Which explains the people standing outside of their car on the other side with eyes fixated on the streetview-mobile. :Tongue2:
