Flashing yellow???!!!

I am on vacation this week in the wonderful city of San Antonio, and I came across something VERY strange...

A crossing with standard (albeit very old) signals, except there is no bell and the lights are *YELLOW* instead of red! :Scared: And the lights flash continuously, whether there is a train present or not.

I checked with Mike, and the closest thing he's ever heard of to an installation like this is the yard crossing in Wisconsin that was protected by a single flashing red light. This is a lot different, though, since these lights are yellow and they are true crossing signals and not traffic lights.

The crossing is on Guadalupe Street, on the lower level (the upper level is an overpass). See the preview below, I will be submitting the crossing for next week's update. Yes, the lights really are yellow - not just a digital camera trick.

Oh yeah, and this is on what appears to be a busy UP mainline - I did see a train cross while I was here. And the signal for the other direction has vandal guards, first time I have ever seen them in Texas!

Has anyone ever seen or heard of ANYTHING like this??? Or is this a one-of-a-kind crossing?

The only thing I can think of is that their wasn't enough area to put a track circuit so they just installed yellow warning lights indicating a train may or may not be present.

It is probably the same thing, just with no pillar in the way.
