Yeah you could be right.
Too bad it's off in the boondocks. Streetview will not make it there for a long time, if it all.

If you look closely enough below the bell mounting, the wire runs along the side of the post and not through it.

anyway back on topic I wounder how many crossings with bells only are there out in the boonies on that line, M-bells are rare on bnsf An m-bell on the transcon thats a good find in it self.

That's pretty neat in my books. They probably just had the bell lying around, and looking for a way to use it... Who knows! So many weird installations that make you wonder.
