I understand the Adventure officially began in Cheyenne, WY today -- UP#844 is ON THE WAY!!

Will anybody else here be within range, as it makes its way towards here? I still can't quite believe I'm getting the chance to not only see #844 when it's in town -- but I get to actually go BOARD THE TRAIN in Bald Knob, AR early on the 9th, and RIDE IT BACK to North Little Rock!!!

(hmmm...I wonder if the trip qualifies for Amtrak Rewards points? probably not... )

Truthfully, I was born/raised closer to BN and SF (before they became one) but beggars can't be choosers -- I live in UP land now...

Gee, I just thought it might be fun to share with y'all. I don't know anything about 'voting politics' at all that -- I didn't cast a single vote myself, personally -- the opportunity for the trip is a gift of a friend.

Sorry to have bothered y'all with what I thought might be a fun topic... :-(

Just for the record, a bit more of my 'history'. Wanna be clear to the Mods and everyone else that I'm an equal-opportunity (amateur) railfan. I don't all that much care what "brand" is on anybody's rolling stock (except for those odd 'vintage' unpainted-over relics from the past you come across every so often, of course) but just wish there were more trains, generally, like there used to be...

I grew up in Galesburg, Illinois, when Burlington-Northern (C.B.&Q.) and Santa-Fe (A.T.&S.F.) were still two separate railroads, having main lines that had always happened to cross one another right in the middle of town. I was there when some of the first G'burg "Railroad Days" festivals were held, if anybody is familiar with those. BN had a particularly large local presence then, and Amtrak ran on both lines. I still have a brick from the (magnificent!) old CB&Q Depot, and somewhere a packet of photographs taken during its controversial demolition. (I still have an old school friend there, who is now a BNSF freight train Conductor)

From Galesburg, I spent several more years living in Rock Island, IL, but by then "The Rock" (Rock Island Lines) had just 'officially' died. (or was killed, or 'conglomerated', or however that worked in reality) There was still lots of their leftover-branded rolling stock and equipment around...if only I'd have had the foresight (and ability) then, to have been able to take pics of it all. I can still remember the delicious 'rumble' of driving across the Rock Island Arsenal bridge to Davenport IA (over the Mississippi R) while a big 'ole coal train or two were also crossing on the tracks overhead of the traffic lanes...

Now I'm in Little Rock. Most everything nearby is now UP, from whatever else it used to be before I was here, and I'm still learning/figuring that all out, as I get the chances...! They've built this city so we seldom have to actually wait for trains at grade crossings, but at least we still HAVE trains! (and a few nifty old drawbridges too!) There's LOTS of stuff here, that I haven't taken the chance to actually go exploring, yet...

All in due time...pics will likely be posted here, as long as y'all will still have me...but in the meantime I've gotta go get ready to ride the LITTLE ROCK EXPRESS!!
