I Guess It's For Safety, But What Is It Needed For?

So I was bored, looking around on google maps at the crossings on the CTA and found this one-way crossing on the Pink Line in Cicero. Two gates protecting the road for southbound traffic as it is a southbound oneway, but then a gate for northbound traffic on one side. I guess it's because there is an alley right in front of the crossing but it's still strange.

Because there's always that one car going the wrong way.

In this sue-happy society, the railroad is just trying to protect itself I'm sure.
Better to spend the extra money now putting that signal and gate in than having to go to court. Would be much less expensive in the long run.
