The Signs Are There, The Lights Aren't

Strange that they placed the Cross Buck and Tracks sign on the cantilever mast but they put the lights on the gate mast. The cantilever mast is further away from the road than the gate mast but in that case why not put the signs on the gate mast?

Forgot that crossing was on the site. Obviously, it has had an LED upgrade since those photo's on the site were taken.

L.E.D.s are popping up and spreading like wild fire. The very last crossing with incandescent on the UP main line out here got replaced six months ago.
How ever things are not the same on the NS.
Norfolk Southern has yet to approve L.E.D.s for use on any of their lines.
Even brand new crossing have and will continue to go up with incandescent lights.
Any L.E.D.s that come in from any manufacturer get thrown away, I have 4 Dialight (Ball) 433 L.E.D.s. that were brand new.
The only down fall to L.E.D.s is weathering issues, heat can get to them as well in the winter they don't melt snow off the lights because they produce no heat.
In reality L.E.D.s pull about 1AMP as a 25Watt light bulb will pull 1 1/2 AMPs so energy saving is not the issue.
And a well aimed light bulb and light head with good clean mirrors can be as bright as an L.E.D.
All in all I do like L.E.D.s weather or not their better than incandescent lights has yet to been seen.

Yes, I noticed that NS still does not use LED and I was wondering if they ever will. Every crossing in town on the NS is still incandescent, but all except for 1 has electronic bells now. Funny how they approved those with no problem.
