Mike's Railroad Crossing Forum

This was in the news last Thursday (December 13th, 2012), I never got a chance to see it till now because I was taking care of other things and I rarely watch the news.
Anyway, when I seen this, I was thinking that is was sad to hear that this person got killed at a railroad crossing on Sunland Dr. in Walker, LA. This crossing happens to be a Passive crossing and locals wants this crossing to be upgraded to a Gated Mast signal, but got no respond from Canadian National (the one who owns the track line).
In my opinion, I think they should upgrade it to a Gated Mast signal

And to make matters worse, this is the 2nd accident that happen at this crossing just this year.

I'm certainly not trying to say anything about the person who died... it's terrible that she did... but here goes my worth...

Lights, gates, etc. won't stop an accident from happening... we all know that. Whatever caused this was not the railroad's fault. The crossing is properly marked with crossbucks, and I'm sure the train was sounding it's horn, etc. We all learned in driver's ed when you approach a crossing such as this you stop, look and listen. It's up to the people behind the wheel out there to be responsible and stop saying it's the railroad's fault for not providing signals.

That is true for some reason

The people that worked at that place is use to cross the crossing everyday and don't really pay attention at the crossing. Even if they do add the lights and gates up, that doesn't mean that the crossing is 100% safe because people will become dump and drive around them

Keep it the way it is, thin out the herd for all I care...
