Odd way to install a gate?

In regards to a previous post I made on another thread... I did some perusing around the Kinston NC area. Found this crossing with a rather peculiar way of installing the gate. Just seems like a lot of trouble to me... but maybe less trouble then installing a separate mast for the gate?

Nothing really different except for less digging, running less conduit, less wiring, among other crap for another signal
Only thing I don't like is it's next to impossible to install a gate saver on that. Although gate savers have a hard time saving a fiberglass and longer gates anyway.
Also Lincoln Industries Cantilevers are great, nice to work on.
