[signal-in-the-box]

I'm migrating over from the Signal Traffic Forums, because I guess these are signals too, right?

I know a lot about traffic lights (and other road stuff), but little about railroad signals & crossing "accessories". I hope to learn more here


There are around 12 crossings, all with signals, in Charlottesville VA where I live. I will get some pictures of a few of them soon, possibly next week. Right now this is all I have, a shot from a bridge

I remember you from the Signal Traffic Forums!
I'm going to give you a few quick tips on how to identify crossing signal parts:
The lights usually have the logo on the back of them. The only ones that don't have the logos on the backs are the Harmon and WRRS 8 inch lights. Examples:

If the bells are mechanical bells, they will usually have the logos on the backs of them. The only one that doesn't have a logo on the back is the US&S Model 15-A "Teardrop" bell, which has the logo on the front. Example:

Electronic bells have no logos, but the different models are very easy to tell apart from one another. You can read more about the different crossing bells here and here.
