I stumbled upon this Xing In Google maps.I thought that it was a bit strange that the lights and crossbucks were turned over.Could the railroad just get rid of them?

Here's a link to the crossing: https://www.google.com/maps?q=Hanes+Mal ... 78,,0,4.56

And for all we know, the line could have been recently abandoned.. the latest FRA inventory report (which is from 4/10/2011) still indicates the crossing as open.

Based on the small tree that has overtaken this gate on the other side of the crossing... I'd say it's been a couple of years at least. https://www.google.com/maps?q=Hanes+Mal ... ,3.63&z=19

The next major crossing up looks the same way, except one of the gates is missing: https://www.google.com/maps?q=Hanes+Mal ... ,9.85&z=18

Well for sure the lights were turned upright sometime between 2007 and 2012...

2012:

2007:

This crossing is pretty beat up. Gate looks like it either snapped in the wind, or was clipped by a large vehicle. https://www.google.com/maps?q=Hanes+Mal ... -0.41&z=16

Cantilever on other side is missing it's mast lights, and the gate mast is entirely gone. https://www.google.com/maps?q=Hanes+Mal ... ,0.37&z=16

Heres another crossing on another line near the previous one.

Notice that each signal has a different M-bell.

Instead of using Print Screen, just paste the Google maps link

Here's how (if you didn't know)..

Click this link:

Then copy and paste the highlighted link

Then your final output should be something like this: https://www.google.com/maps?ll=28.01529 ... 5,,0,-3.57
