Grettings!

Hello folks. Thought I'd I'd introduce myself a bit. My name is Scottie (Scott works fine too). Just stumbled across this site a few days ago and looks pretty awesome. Yes, I do take a big interest in signals, trains, old abandoned routes (partly due to http://www.abandonedrails.com which I'm sure you guys are aware of). I'm less knowledgeable than pretty much anyone on here I'm sure lol but perhaps this will help me learn more with terms, parts, etc. Hopefully there's not a test. :) I'm 26 years old and Live in Fresno, CA so the valley here is pretty where I go train/signal hunting (I prefer the old stuff like mechanical bells, wigwags, etc.) My name explains a lot too haha. I chase SJVR around a lot.

Hey Scottie, welcome!

I noticed that your city of location is Fresno.. are the wig-wags still in place out there by any chance? Have you ever seen them active in person? I've never seen a wig-wag in person myself, but that's in due to the fact that I live in Florida, where old signals are pretty much non-existent :CloseEye:

Anyways, we're glad to have you here as a member, and I hope you enjoy your stay here as well

Yes, they still are and still swinging their little hearts out. I've pretty much gotten down when SJVR is usually passing by the one along California Ave on their way back to Exeter. I see it operating fairly often. There's another crossing right down a block or two from there (modern setup) which has "no left turn" lights that I like as well. I do have a video of the wigwag (cell phone quality, but not too bad) if you want to see it.

I have to conform this by the way, but if I recall correctly, I think one of the Hanford wigwags are gone now. I think it's the Phillips Ave one. I was there some weeks ago and noticed the crossing being shut down and no wigwag. I'm heading there later this week so I'll make sure.

Well, I AM getting paid for this...right? If not, screw this, I'm gone!

Note: I am heading to Hanford tomorrow, so when I clarify the info about the wigwag, I'll email the site owner or whoever I'm supposed to email for the crossing pics page.

You can e-mail them to me or Gilson. However, the next update does not have a set date because Gilson needs a new computer monitor.
