A good video for those interested in these types of gates. Mostly found in Wisconsin... at least for RR use. We have quite a few in my area used on drawbridges.

There's a crossing on US 231 in Troy, AL that has a pair of these. We should create a list of locations of crossings with these gates at them.

I recently uploaded another one of my barrier gate videos from 2007:
These videos were on the "Wisconsin Signals" DVDs so I did not upload them to YouTube when they were taken. I figured what with Mike's passing those DVDs are no longer being distributed through this site.
Baldwin Street still had the Griswold EM types last I saw. I pass by there at least once a month now that I live in Madison again.

I remember that Whitney Way crossing well. Sure was a mess back in the day with the hodge-podge mixup of lights. Even today it is still a bit odd with the cantilever poles still there, but the cantilevers themselves removed. Who's idea was that?

If I had to take a wild guess, it was probably "Da Commish"

Yes, indeed. It notes in the PDF that the crossing is "literally located outside the OCR's office windows," so he's the one who has to look at it every day.
Interesting that the City of Monroe is petitioning to keep the barrier gates at STH 69. Will have to keep tabs on the progress of that. They have a very valid point about possible car/train collisions there at night, and I like their attitude that they'd rather deal with the crossing being closed off due to a malfunction than not have the crash gates and someone possibly plow into rail cars full of ethanol.
