Nice to see the Lydiard Street crossing finally reopened, but now it is a generic V/Line crossing like the rest of the crossings in Ballarat. I wish they took the time to to repair the swing gates though. I think the new signals should have had cantilevers too, seeing how busy the road is.

I was in Castlemaine the other day and was able to check out Maclise St. Nothing has changed signal wise, although the road has been re-surfaced and new sleepers have been installed next to the crossing:

It's clear that the boom gates were cut from this installation at the last second. Masts designed to accommodate gates have been installed, rather than the thinner masts typically used for gateless setups. Some of them even have sockets for gate mech wiring! Very unusual to see:

One other thing I found quite unusual about this crossing is that it doesn't have fault sticker. I've never seen a crossing without one before (even other tourist railways have them). It was my understanding that they were legally required, but there defiantly isn't one here. Too bad if the crossing actually has a fault!

Hi all! I just got back from a road trip to Yarrawonga and Bendigo and was able to check out some equipment in the area.

First of all, I am pleased to report that the Westinghouse Teardrop at Yarrawonga is still there!

The (very faded) passive crossing signs at Hunter St also remain, however the tracks have now been turned into a walking trail (and bike jump). The "Give Way" sign on the station side of the crossing was facing the wrong way, but I turned it back to the correct position while I was there:

Interestingly, a full relay bungalow has been built to house the control equipment, rather than a typical relay case:

Finally, while in Bendigo, I took a look at this unique tram warning system. This is located next to the Bendigo mine where the tram tracks merge onto High Street. When a tram approaches, the amber LED lights flash to alert motorists. Apparently, this setup is activated by the tram's GPS system:

I believe the Old Geelong Road crossing in Hoppers Crossing has now been replaced by an overpass. I'm not sure if the signals are still there or not, but Chris96 might be able to confirm this for us. Sadly, this means that there are no more mechanical bells left on the Werribee line now.

Also, the South Gippsland Highway crossing in Dandenong South was replaced with an overpass a few months ago, meaning that's another pair of hybrid bells gone from the suburban network.

Unless some of these have had their bells already replaced, here are the remaining crossings on the suburban network that still have hybrid bells:

Glenroy Road, Glenroy (in the process of being removed)
Macaulay Road, North Melbourne
Oakover Road, Preston (to be removed)
Main Hurstbridge Road, Diamond Creek
Bedford Road, Ringwood (to be removed)
Glenferrie Road, Kooyong (tramsquare crossing)
Webster Street, Dandenong (to be removed)
Station Street, Officer (crossing to be closed)
Racecourse Road, Pakenham (one hybrid bell only; crossing to be removed)
Camms Road, Cranbourne (crossing to be removed)
Moorooduc Highway, Frankston
Robinsons Road, Langwarrin
Golf Links Road, Langwarrin South
Eramosa Road West, Somerville

That's only fourteen crossings that still have some sort of mechanical bell at them on the Metro network. To add insult to injury, the Comeng fleet (built in the 1980s) are now starting to be withdrawn from service!

Old Geelong Road is now removed. The crossing itself is still there for now as the pedestrian crossing is still being used until the pedestrian overpass is complete.

Camms, Cranbourne road is Believed to have a new setup, and Pakenham (Main st) Believed to have a LED Upgrade. No confirmation or proof yet, but I'm not able to get out there for another 10 days at least

I can report that during February 2023 the crossing at Angas Rd, Hawthorn was upgraded with new UGL LED lights and the Lex-C lights are no more. Google actually managed to capture the old lights during their final month of service in January 2023. I was unable to get pictures of the new lights due to it being dark at the time. https://www.google.com.au/maps/@-34.973 ... 384!8i8192

There were some Lex-C lights in Queensland on a few of the sugar mill railways but not sure how many are left, this is one example which still existed last year
