Found this on youtube and thought it was interesting, not very often do you see mechanical bell failures on video. The crossing is in Sydney, Australia and used to have 2 WCH m-bells. The same guy went back a couple of weeks later and filmed the crossing again, both bells had been replaced (not just the dying one) by WCH e-bells.
The first video with the m-bells. The healthy bell only rings until the gates have lowered and the dying one is meant to ring until the gates begin to rise. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2yo6N9iXD5o
The second video. The bell operation is the same just with WCH e-bells now, for some reason they slowed the ring rate. It seems a waste to replace the healthy m-bell. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2DS39bePEwQ

It's a lot like that crossing in Little River with one WCH Mechanical Bell and one Safetran E-Bell. For some reason, one of the WCH bells were replaced with the Safetran E-Bell, but not the other one for some reason.

There's a Westinghouse Hybrid Bell at the level crossing next to Royal Park station that is a little hit and miss:

Sadly, the WCH Mechanical Bell was replaced about a month ago. In fact, the whole Geelong line is now all Safetran (Siemens) Type 3 E-Bells

Honestly, why would someone replace bells that work perfectly fine? They've already replaced the Safetran bell at Ripponlea. As far as I know, the teardrop is still at Ivanhoe as the crossing made the news a few nights ago when someone's car got hit by a train. I saw the teardrop bell onscreen when they were interviewing someone.

Well now that that's happened, you can bet it'll be gone soon (when they do a "safety upgrade" of the crossing). Maybe one of us should call Metro and get dibs on it for when it's removed!

I wouldn't be surprised if you did a R.I.P Teardrop bell video (much like the one you did on the Safetran bell).

I found this video of the Little River crossing when it had two WCH bells.
