Signal on the left: 2 pairs of Safetran 12x24 inch lights, a WCH mechanical bell, a Safetran gate mechanism, and RECO gate lights.
Signal on the right: 2 pairs of Safetran 12x24 inch lights, a dying WCH mechanical bell, a Safetran gate mechanism, and RECO gate lights.

The crossing is rather cool though. Not only is it an almost pure 1990s CSX install, it also has two mechanical bells and all incandescent lights! Rare to see a gated crossing on the CSX like this these days! This crossing is actually just north of the Georgia state line as well.

Pretty rare to see incandescent gate lights on a CSX install, you mean? :Tongue1: Nice signals, and great video!

Yea, pretty much. Though I was referring to the fact that all of the lights here (including the gate lights) are incandescent. Thanks!

*originally recorded on 9-23-23*

Signal on the left: 2 pairs of Safetran 12x24 inch lights, a WCH mechanical bell, a Safetran gate mechanism, and RECO LED gate lights.
Signal on the right: 3 pairs of Safetran 12x24 inch lights, an NEG electronic bell, a Safetran gate mechanism, RECO LED gate lights, and a RECO gate light.

As I continued documenting crossings around Chattanooga, TN, and working on getting some upgrades on the CSX W&A Subdivision documented, I pulled-up to this crossing and found another railfan out here waiting on a train. Asked him if anything was coming, and he said that yes, and it'd likely be getting there very shortly. As such, I grabbed my camera and soon heard it blow for a nearby crossing as I was setting-up. About a minute later, once I'd gotten my camera started, and less than a minute after getting it set-up, the crossing activated and this CSX M203 came through with an ES40DC pulling on the head-end and a pair of ES44AHs working as the mid-train DPUs. Definitely a rather neat and unexpected catch.

There have been a few upgrades here since I last recorded this crossing back in 2016. Over the past few years, most of the gate lights here were replaced with RECO LEDs and, by 2019, the far gate arm was replaced with another vertically striped one. Then, sometime between 2021 and 2022, the dying WCH mechanical bell on the closer signal must've finally kicked the bucket so CSX replaced it with the current NEG e-bell. Since then, however, no major changes have occurred to this crossing.
It's nice to see that the far signal still retains its original WCH mechanical bell, and that the crossing here is still incandescent. I will admit, it's rather strange to see that this crossing's incandescent as well, given that I'd thought the entire W&A Sub was given an LED upgrade. In fact, the entire W&A Sub is LED (other than the old NC&StL No Left Turn signal in Dalton), save for this one crossing, so I'm surprised to see it's still incandescent. In fact, the next crossing south and right over the Georgia state line, Julian Road in Graysville, GA, is LED now as well. I'm guessing the LED upgrade must've been funded by the State of Georgia, and, as such, only went as far as the Georgia State Line.
