The RS3L really was nice. I thought it was interesting to see NS install LED lights in these, rather than their usual incandescent lights. In any case, a nice upgrade from this same crossing having just two gateless masts with a GS Type 2.

This is completely normal now as NS has finally agreed to start using LED lights in favor of incandescent. The change happened either in 2014 or 2015.

Huh, I never knew about that. I thought they were still all in-favor of installing incandescent lights on their new installations. Boy, I'm a lot more out of the loop than I thought.

It only seems to apply to "new" installs though, correct? They haven't started replacing incandescent crossings with LED's yet?

As far as I'm aware, that's correct.

Actually, they have. McEntire Lane in Decatur, AL got an LED upgrade shortly after NS started using them, the two cantilevered crossings in Cherokee, AL got LED upgrades when the 8 inch lights there were replaced, and an entire line in Georgia was upgraded to LEDs. Here are a few more crossings on the NS Memphis West End near Memphis, TN that got LED upgrades: https://www.google.com/maps/@35.1160448 ... 312!8i6656
Have they really? Everything NS in my neck of the woods is still incandescent, minus this particular crossing. Nice to see they're starting to upgrade existing signals.
