Found this photo of a crossing in the middle of nowhere in Wyoming with unusually tall cantilevers.

I think the reason why those cantilevers is so tall is so that way semi-trucks can be able to pass right under the cantilevers without risking damaging the cantilevers, and combined with the hilly terrain so that way people can see the signals.

But wouldn't tall cantilever signals like these be more common?

Good point, maybe it could be for the obstructed view from the hilly landscape on why the the cantilevers are tall, that would be other guess.

That is my guess as well. For some reason though I still find crossings in the middle of nowhere with cantilevers strange.

Do keep in mind that height can be deceiving based on the angle of the photograph. However, based on the Street View link from above, it does appear as if the cantilevers are in fact very tall.

See where I have circled. It looks to me like extensions have been added for the additional height. It could be for sight purposes, but also clearance if large trucks come through this area. Maybe the previous cantilevers got damaged by one?
