Talk about signals ranging from wigwags to EVA signals here.

EVA signals to make a comeback?

Post by ToledoRailfan »

So I was browsing through the WCH website today and I when I was looking at the 'Railroad Crossings' section and I noticed something called "Enhanced Crossing Signals". I clicked on it and a .pdf opened up. Unfortunately I was unable to open it up again but what I did see was what looked like a diagram of an EVA signal. According to some information provided by Western-Cullen Hayes in .pdf the 'Enhanced Crossing Signal' was created by the EVA Signal Corporation in 1996 to be a low cost solution to the signals that are currently used at public railroad crossings, the .pdf also mentions how WCH bought the EVA Signal Corporation in 2006 after the owners left the industry of railroad signals and train detection. The .pdf also talks about how Western Cullen Hayes is working with the Lake State Railway, Great Lakes Central Railroad, Marquette Rail, and MDOT (Michigan Department of Transportation) to test these EVA signals. Several passive crossings that are on mildly busy roads on LSRC, GLC, and MQT lines are in the process of having their signals replaced with EVA signals. I'm kinda tempted to have a road trip up to Northern Michigan just to check out these signals and document them for the site! I wonder how this will workout?!

Yep. You'd think a manufacturer for railroad equipment would have a more modern looking website.

The web page looks more likely a Late 1990's - Early 2000's design (around the same time that the EVA Signals were at it's peak), so that was a red-flag right there that it was an April Fool's joke.

No, that is what their current website looks like. I just made it look like that "Enhanced Crossing Signals" was on their website.

I looked at their website and it's not even up-to-date...the light heads are still rounded in the PDF files. :Tongue1:

They also feature conflicting information with other areas of the site. For example, the PDF for gate lights doesn't feature the 1597 LED gate lights, which are advertised on another part of the site!

And that right there is why CMSs exist...

There is also a .pdf for right/left turn signals. Although I do recall seeing a video of a modern right/left turn signal some where on an electrified line in Pennsylvania or New Jersey that was manufactured by WCH Hayes, other than that though I always assumed that those signals ceased to be produced many decades ago!
