Topics like these have taken off on other forums so I figured I would post one here and get a consensus on what everybody's musical tastes are like.

Personally, I listen to almost everything but prefer music from the '70s and '80s, mostly '80s music as I was born in '86 and hence, am too young to remember any of the hit songs from that era. Listening to them makes me feel like I'm connecting with the decade I'm from but don't remember. That and I've always believed I was born 40 years too late so listening to this music takes me to a place that I yearn to visit but can only imagine about. Example, I'm listening to Richard Marx's 1988 hit 'Endless Summer Nights' right now which is your stereotypical 1980s love song.

As for radio, my presets for Portland radio stations (in the car) include country, classic rock, alternative, rap, contemporary, pop, and hard rock. My CD and iTunes collection is packed with less-than-mainstream older songs along with many hits.

So tell us...what do you listen to?

I was very disappointed when Portland's hip-hop station Jammin 95.5 moved to and replaced 107.5 which at the time was an all-80s station. Mix 107.5 was taken off the air and became Jammin' 107.5. I remember when 97.1 was KISN FM and they played the REALLY good older stuff (50s and 60s mostly, some 70s).

I will agree with you Elton, the new stuff is mostly garbage.

My presets in the car are as follows:

FM1:
1. 98.7 - Country
2. 100.3 - Z100 (Top 40)
3. 97.1 - Charlie FM (EVERYTHING)
4. 101.9 - Been on the air for 40 years and they are AWESOME. If this station bites it I'm leaving Portland
5. 105.1 - Top 40 minus the rap
6. 107.5 - Mostly rap and hip-hop

FM2:
1. 92.3 - Classic Rock
2. 94.7 - Alternative
3. 99.5 - Country
4. 101.1 - Rock
5. 105.9 - 50s and 60s
6. 106.7 - Same as 105.9 but different station

Portland is rare as it still has TWO country stations. Los Angeles doesn't even have a country station anymore and many cities are dropping the format.

Oh yeah. I forgot about AM. Only one AM station plays country, so that makes 6 for Prescott Valley.

I hardly ever listen to the radio anymore... there aren't any good stations left in Dallas/Fort Worth anymore. Dallas used to have some AWESOME stations, like 93.3 The Bone (the ORIGINAL, before Cumulus took over), Q102, and the mother of them all... KZEW The Zoo! Now there's nothing left but watered-down, talk-a-lot, play-the-same-old-boring-crap conglomerate-owned stations. I had a 3-moth free trial to XM satellite radio when I bought my car, and that was great - but I'm not going to pay a monthly fee for it. Since my car plays MP3 CD's, I always listen to my music collection.

I've got a pretty broad range of stuff, but my favorite is 70's, 80's and 90's rock (not pop). I especially like 80's "hair bands" and 90's alternarock. Some bands I really like are: The Doors, The Stones, The Cars, Led Zeppelin, Ozzy Osbourne, Journey, Rush, Yes, Def Leppard, Queensryche, Whitesnake, Dokken, Metallica, Warrant, Tesla, King's X, Pantera, Soundgarden, Stone Temple Pilots, Coldplay, Days of the New, Three Doors Down, and Foo Fighters. And my favorite two bands of all time are: THE SCORPIONS and ALICE IN CHAINS!!!

There are 2 kinds of music I can't stand:
1) Rap. It's not music to me, just obnoxious noise!
2) Country. Unfortunately I run into this occasionally, since my wife likes it. Mostly, she likes the same music that I do... But every once in awhile she'll pop in a "Faith Hill & Tim McGraw" CD or something, and say "Isn't this a great song?" That's when I have to put a smile on my face, swallow the puke that's rising in the back of my throat, and reply: "Yes, dear!"

I mostly don't listen to radio, because the selection here is pretty poor. The music I want to hear is down in Phoenix, and is too far away to reach here. I mostly listen to my 20 GB of MP3 music and internet radio.

If given a choice of Sirius/XM, I may consider it, especially in this area.

This is all we get up here in Prescott/Flagstaff: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:Flagstaff_Radio

Note: Out of the 8 AM stations listed, only 3 make it into Prescott. The other 5 cannot be pulled in.

Also, for those of you who listen to the radio through HD radio, they'll be worthless up here. No radio stations broadcast in HD in the Prescott/Flagstaff area.

I listen to a variety of stuff here. Since Andrew listed what he's got on his radio, here is my list.

FM 1:
1. 93.7 - Country
2. 95.7 - Classic Rock
3. 96.7 - modern adult contemporary
4. 98.9 - Soft Rock
5. 101.1 - modern adult contemporary
6. 102.7 - Country

FM 2:
1. 103.7 - Album Oriented Rock
2. 104.1 - Modern rock
3. 104.9 - Hot Adult Contemporary format
4. 105.1 - Classic rock
5. 105.9 - Talk radio weekdays, 50's and 60's oldies weekend
6. 106.7 - country

Besides these three country stations, Hanford can pick up one from Bakersfield and one from Merced. Also on the rare occasion, I can pick up a AM station from Arizona. But I can't remember which one. Maybe I could find it.

The station I listen to most here is 93.9 Abe FM. (In case you were wondering, President Lincoln was from Springfield, so everything here is about Abe Lincoln). Anyways... that station plays a good variety of 70's to current pop & rock. What I really like is once in awhile they dig into the archives and play songs that I haven't heard in years.

I also listen to 97.7 Alice FM. Don't ask me where the name came from, but they were obviously trying to copy the other station. They are different than the other station though because they play more "Alternative Rock"... stuff you don't here on the mainstream channels.

I really would like to get Siruis/XM in my car... I have it at home as it comes with the DishNetwork satellite, but I really only listen to music while in the car.
