I don't know why I haven't asked about this before, since this has interested me for such a long time. I was reminded about these while I was re-watching a video on the Conway Scenic Railroad. Here is the Gate in question: https://www.google.com/maps/@44.0522062 ... 312!8i6656
I can't really find any other examples of this sort of practice. Can anybody pleae enlighten me on why and where gates were painted this way?

I'm guessing it mainly depended on what the railroad wanted many years ago, and then eventually things were standardized to the current red and white gate arms. That's my best guess, anyways.
