*originally recorded on 7-28-19*
Signal on the left: 2 pairs of Safetran 8 inch lights, a General Signals Type 1 electronic bell, a Safetran gate mechanism, and RECO LED gate lights.
Signal on the right: 2 pairs of Safetran 8 inch lights, a dead Safetran mechanical bell, a Safetran gate mechanism, and RECO LED gate lights.
This was the 11th crossing I caught A724 at on the 28th. Like the other crossings I recorded on this day, this crossing is a rather nice one. This crossing is another 1970s SCL Safetran install, however, unlike the one I recorded earlier, this one has had a few changes done to it. In the late 90s/early 2000s, CSX replaced the original Safetran mechanical bell on the far signal with the current GS Type 1. Around that time, CSX also replaced both of the original Safetran gate mechs with the current, newer Safetran gate mechs.
The reason i know it was the original Safetran mechanical bell that was replaced, is that I've seen a photo of a train passing through this crossing in the 1990s (I think 1996 or somewhere around there?) where the far signal can be seen, and it still retained its original bell at the time. The lights here are certainly in better shape than the other 70s SCL Safetran install I recorded, though that's not saying much.
The closer signal is also somewhat far back from the tracks, at least when compared to the other signal. However, this appears to be due to a now-removed spur that would've originally served the now abandoned customer located next to this crossing.
And for anyone curious, the cats-eye crossbuck at Troy Street is still there.
