Signal on the left: 4 pairs of Safetran 12x20 inch lights with GE Uniform Look LEDs, a General Signals Type 3 electronic bell, a Safetran (Siemens) gate mechanism, and RECO LED gate lights.
Signal on the right: 3 pairs of Safetran 12x20 inch lights with GE Uniform Look LEDs, a General Signals Type 3 electronic bell, a Safetran (Siemens) gate mechanism, and RECO LED gate lights.
This crossing is a pretty decent one, being another typical NS install from about 2016/2017, with the Safetran-branded Siemens gate mechanisms that were being produced around then, for some reason. One of the rear overhead lights is slightly pointed to the east, likely a result of some strong winds, if I had to guess.
For whatever reason though, like Norton Avenue #2 in Sylacauga, this crossing features a very tall mast signal at it, along with another tall mast for the gate mast on the cantilever. There was another crossing on the other side of US 280 that installed around the same time as this one, but features a normal pair of mast signals.
There also appears to have once been a passing siding at this crossing, which was later reduced to being a storage track, as the very western end of it was taken out of service, starting just east of the crossing.
As you can see, this crossing is also located right in downtown Childersburg. AL 76 can also be seen at the traffic light just beyond this crossing.
This crossing is located on the NS R Line, which is an old Southern Railway mainline that appears to have run from Rome, GA, to what's now the NS 3B District in Wilton, AL, essentially providing a southern bypass of Birmingham for the SOU. However, while I'm not sure on the order that these events happened, it appears that the eastern end of the R Line, from Rome, GA, to Anniston, AL, was abandoned and torn up, while the section of the line between Anniston and Talladega was taken out of service and is now used to store a bunch of old cars for NS. The remaining section of the line is now essentially a long branch line for NS, with this local going over it twice a day (once up, once down), and only going as far as Talladega about once a week. Interestingly enough, NS still maintains an active connection between this line and the P line here in Childersburg, though I ain't sure what uses it these days.
