When I first saw picture as a thumbprint, I thought there was some funky bell above the crossbuck, only to see upon opening it up full size that it is a streetlight. I wonder if there is some sort of rule whether or not you can put a crossbuck on just anything?

When is the date that all passive crossings will require the reflective strip on the mast? That's about the only thing I see in the way of possibly being illegal...
I guess I've seen crossbucks and advance warning signs mounted on much stranger things.

I wish I knew the answer to that. The next version of MUTCD comes in 2009, but no date has been announced yet, although I've heard that it may come late in the year, so your guess is as good as what I can provide.

The reflective strip is the only thing that I can foresee a minor violation, but otherwise, not really IMO.
