*originally recorded on 5-24-20*
Signal on the left: 1.5 pairs of Federal Signal 8 inch lights, 1 WRRS 8 inch light, a Transport Products Corp. gate mechanism, and RECO LED gate lights.
Signal on the right: 2 pairs of Federal Signal(?) 8 inch lights, an NEG electronic bell, a Transport Products Corp. gate mechanism, and RECO LED gate lights.
This crossing is located in a quiet zone. Trains do not blow their horns at this crossing.
After catching Q142 at Hite Avenue, I went on over to Ewing Avenue for Q575 since that was another crossing I wanted to record. After a bit of waiting (which was in the shade, thankfully), he came on through with an ET44AH leading an ES40DC on the head-end, and an ES44AH working as the mid-train DPU. You can also hear me accidentally set off my car alarm when squatting down to get a picture of the power. This was the last train I caught on this day.
This crossing is another pretty nice one, featuring some more older L&N equipment. Like the others, this appears to have originally been a TPC install from the L&N, that had the masts replaced entirely in the 1970s (including the bell, which appears to have been a Federal Signal mechanical bell). The crossing then remained more or less unchanged until sometime between 2011 and 2014, when the mechanical bell here was replaced with an NEG e-bell.
However, for some reason, when CSX replaced the bell here, rather than mounting the NEG e-bell on the top of the mast like the old mechanical bell was, CSX opted to mount it on the front of the mast, partially blocking the crossbuck! Certainly an interesting choice of mount, to say the least.
Also, when documenting pictures for the site, I somehow never realized I forgot to get pictures of the lights on the closer signal, along with the bell here. As such, the equipment listed in the description for the lights is just my best guess from what I can recall alongside what I've observed elsewhere along this part of the line. Thankfully it's pretty obvious what the bell here is though.
As with Hite Avenue, you can see US 60 on the far side of the crossing. Also, Ethan, if you're ever gonna head up to Louisville anytime before October, feel free to get those missing pictures for me.
