Maybe the train is actually off the crossing, but it looks like it is, and that the lights are not on.

well if you look in the picture, the ditch lights are not on, so the train isn't moving. My guess would be that the crew manually turned off the signals.

If a train stops on the approach, but hasn't reached the island, then the signals should reset and turn off. ...Rarely does a train crew interfere with grade crossing signals, except in switching operations and such. It is NOT a standard practice for a train crew member to "manually turn off" signals on a mainline.

The train is clearly in the middle of that crossing, but the gate is up?

I even left a comment on the picture asking if the road was closed or something but never got a response. Also, check out the odd bell placement on that signal.

Interesting mounting of the bell there also, inbetween the two sets of lightheads...

there was a mini bell designed like the bell on the signal in the 2nd picture on Ebay. What made my head spin was someone was gonna pay over $380 for a mini bell that was to be mounted with 2 U bolts.

I had a hunch this was the case. There is a second track in the street that we can't see because of the snow.

See here it doesn't look like it's used anymore.
