*originally recorded on 7-2-20*
Signal on the left: 2 pairs of WABCO 8 inch lights, a WABCO mechanical bell, a WABCO Model 75 gate mechanism, and NEG gate lights.
Signal on the right: 2 pairs of WABCO 8 inch lights, a General Signals Type 3 electronic bell, a WABCO Model 75 gate mechanism, and NEG gate lights.
This was the fourth crossing we chased L781 to, and like the others, it's another great one. This crossing features a pair of WABCO signals installed by the SCL, which are both still largely original. In fact, the only major changes here appear to have been to the bell on the closer signal. It appears that the original WABCO bell on the closer signal was replaced by a General Signals Type 2 e-bell sometime before 2012, and then that bell died and was replaced sometime earlier on in 2020 with the current GS Type 3. Thankfully, the WABCO mechanical bell on the other side survives and still sounds quite healthy, so it was a treat getting to hear it. Said bell is also the third of three WABCO mechanical bells left on the GC.
The crossing also retains a full set of incandescent NEG gate lights, making this a fully incandescent gated install, which is another great thing to see (IMHO).
This crossing is also located in what could probably be considered Danville's "downtown", though the city hall (seen on the right side across the tracks) is pretty much the only non-residential building that doesn't appear to be abandoned.
