CR 20, Spruce Pine, AL
*originally recorded on 1-4-21*
Signal on the left: 2 pairs of Safetran 12x20 inch lights, a Safetran Type 3 electronic bell, a Safetran gate mechanism, and RECO gate lights.
Signal on the right: 2 pairs of Safetran 12x20 inch lights, a Safetran Type 3 electronic bell, a Safetran gate mechanism, and RECO gate lights.
On January 4th, I went back out to the NS NA District to chase NS 320 south for my first train of the year. I was originally planning to begin my chase of it in Russellville, but was running a bit late. As I arrived there, I heard the 22.6 detector go off, so I turned around and continued on down to Spruce Pine, as I knew the hill between the two towns would slow 320 down a fair amount. I'd gotten here and set-up, but after a little while of waiting, realized I head to run off to find a bathroom. Once nature's call had been answered, however, I returned here and set back-up, only for it to turn out 320 was just about on top of me! Thankfully though, I was able to get my camera started in time, and here we see it rolling south through Spruce Pine with a nice lash-up of an AC44C6M leading an ES44DC on the head-end and an ET44AC working as the mid-train DPU.
This crossing is a pretty decent one, being a pretty standard NS install from the late-2000s. Not sure what these replaced, but I'm willing to bet just a pair of crossbucks, based on how rural this area is. If you look closely at the far signal as well, you'll be able to see that the tip gate light is out.
This crossing is also technically the only public crossing in Spruce Pine, it appears. The other two crossings in this town are both private.
They/Them for me, please.

After catching NS 320 in Russellville, I chased it to Spruce Pine for my second crossing of the day. Here we see it passing through this town during the rain.
Since I was last here, the tip gate light on the closer signal was replaced with an NEG LED gate light. No other changes appear to have occurred here since I last filmed these signals, however.

No major changes here as of 2-28-26, though the far signal has lost most of its striping:
