Signal on the left: 5 pairs of Safetran 12x24 inch lights, a Safetran mechanical bell, a Safetran gate mechanism, and NEG LED gate lights.
Signal on the right: 5 pairs of Modern Industries 12x20 inch lights, a WCH mechanical bell, a WCH gate mechanism, and RECO LED gate lights.
On June 24th, Ethan and I got on up early for one more chase of GC L781. I wanted to also try to get Y103 out here in Dublin as well, so after confirming that train hadn't left yet, but was about to, we set-up at this crossing to wait for them. Didn't have to wait too long though, and here we get to see them rolling through on their way to East Dublin with a GP38-2 running lite.
This crossing is a rather nice one, with two different railroads maintaining each half of it. The far signal is owned and maintained by NS, while the closer signal is owned and maintained by the GC, with both having been installed by their respective railroads in the early mid-90s. The GC's signal is in pretty good shape overall, though the overhead lights are definitely rather faded, which looks quite nice, IMHO. NS's signal is definitely in need of some TLC though, as the flasher relay's definitely beginning to fail as it takes a few seconds to start flashing, and then continues to mess-up at least twice during the activation. The gate mechanism also begins to lower immediately upon activation, which, if what I've heard is correct, is likely due to a bad capacitor.
As this is technically on the NS Dublin District, it sadly makes sense that they wouldn't put much maintenance into it as NS doesn't use this line anymore and have essentially marked the entire thing as "out of service". However, both mechanical bells here still sound quite nice and NS's even rings while the gates rise, so that's quite nice to see. Hopefully the crossing remains unchanged for a good while, outside of NS doing the maintenance work their signal needs.
