Signal on the left: 2 pairs of Safetran 12x24 inch lights with WCH 2nd Generation LEDs, a Safetran gate mechanism, and NEG LED gate lights.
Signal on the right: 2 pairs of Safetran 12x24 inch lights with WCH 2nd Generation LEDs, a General Signals Type 1 electronic bell, a Safetran gate mechanism, and NEG LED gate lights.
After catching the phosphate train in Athens, we went over to Madison to see if we could get any action on the NS, only for rain to force us out. As such, we decided just to head on up to Lewisburg to try and get this crossing recorded (stopping on our way out of Madison for gas), and wound-up getting here just as the phosphate train got here as well! Of course, we didn't have time to set-up for that train, but once it passed, we got set-up for the next one. Thankfully, we didn't have to wait too long, as this northbound empty coal train was hot on its heels with a pair of ES44AHs on the head-end and an ET44AH, an SD40-3, and another ES44AH working as the mid-train DPUs. After this, Ethan and I continued on up to Nashville, grabbed some supper, and I dropped him off at his house before returning back to Huntsville.
This crossing is a pretty nice one, featuring a pair of mid-90s CSX signals, which haven't had too many major changes to them over the years. The first change to them was pretty soon after they were installed, with the original WCH mechanical bell here being replaced with the current GS Type 1 in the late-90s/early-2000s, when CSX went through and replaced most of the mechanical bells along this line. The crossing was still mostly unchanged for several years after though, until about 2013/2014, when CSX upgraded this crossing and most others along the line to LED. Since then, really the only notable change to this crossing is that sometime within the past few years, CSX replaced both gate arms and now all of the gate lights are NEG LEDs. Thankfully though, this crossing retains its GS Type 1 e-bell, making it one of three known GS Type 1s along the line in Tennessee, though the branch line here in Lewisburg may have a fourth. Hopefully it remains here for a good while longer though.
However, on this trip with Ethan, we were able to film crossings in five different states, which I'd certainly say is quite an accomplishment for me.
