Day Gap Road, White City, AL
*originally recorded on 8-24-21*
Signal on the left: 2 pairs of Safetran 12x24 inch lights with WCH 2nd Generation LEDs and a Safetran Type 2 electronic bell.
Signal on the right: 2 pairs of Safetran 12x24 inch lights with WCH 2nd Generation LEDs and a Safetran Type 2 electronic bell.
After X524 passed Bangor, it pulled into Hanceville Siding behind Q514 (though stopping before Middle Hanceville), for both trains to meet Q029. Sadly, I wound-up missing Q029, so I just continued up to White City to get the two northbounds. X524 wound-up going north first, so here we see it once again.
This crossing is a pretty nice one, featuring what I believe are the only remaining pair of SDB signals on the S&NA North Sub. The signals here were installed by the SBD back in the 80s, but in the mid-2000s it appears that both of the original Safetran mechanical bells were replaced with the current Safetran Type 2s. Then, in about 2013/2014, CSX upgraded the lights here to the current LEDs. Since then, nothing major has changed to this crossing, thankfully, and hopefully these older SBD signals hang on for a while longer.
