*originally recorded on 12-15-21*
Signal on the left: 3 pairs of Safetran 12x24 inch lights, a General Signals Type 2 electronic bell, a Safetran gate mechanism, and RECO gate lights.
Signal on the right: 3 pairs of Harmon 8 inch lights, 2 pairs of RACO 12x20 inch lights, 1 pair of Federal Signal 12x20 inch lights, a RACO mechanical bell, a Safetran gate mechanism, and RECO gate lights.
After catching the train at Sullivan Street, I documented another crossing before coming back to this one to wait. After a little while of waiting though, this northbound mixed freight left the yard here on its way to Spartanburg, so I recorded it here. Was a bit back-lit for the signals, unfortunately, but still pretty well lit for the train, so I don't mind too much. The train had an excellent lash-up though, with a YN3b SD70MAC leading a very faded YN2 Dash-9 and a YN3 ES40DC! This was easily one of my favorite catches of the day, if not my favorite catch from this day.
Also, if/when I come back here, I'll have to see about chasing this train up towards Spartanburg as the Spartanburg Sub features some nice crossing equipment along it as well.
This crossing here is another rather nice one, and, like most of the others in Greenwood, seems to have been installed by the SCL back in the late-60s or very early-70s. It appears that in the 2000s, however, the cantilever on the far side was replaced entirely for some reason, with the current one that's there now. Then, it appears that sometime between 2008 and 2012, the original (I believe RACO) gate mech on the closer signal was also replaced with the current Safetran one, though no major changes have occurred since. Thankfully, the closer signal is still mostly original, and still features all of its original lights and RACO bell. I will admit, I'd always wanted to record one of the larger Harmon cantilevers of this style, so I'm glad I was able to do so here. This crossing also features what appears to be a full set of incandescent gate lights still, which is also great to see. Hopefully these signals also remain unchanged (like the rest of the ones in Greenwood) for years to come, but I'm glad I've been able to record these when I did.
