Final catch of the day as well as my 5th Mexico Sub catch of 2022. After catching the local over in Parkville, me and Jack decided to take off for the day. He went over to the Kansas Sub while I was heading home until I seen this train passing through Independence. Went ahead and drove over to Oak Grove and catch this train at a crossing I've been wanting to film at for awhile now. This crossing is another former Gateway Western setup with some various changes KCS has done over the years. There used to be pairs of L&W Industries 12x20 lights at this crossing until sometime in the mid 2000s when KCS replaced them to Safetran 12x24 inch lights, then around late 2021 or whenever, this crossing received an led upgrade like every other crossing on the Mexico Sub. The current leds are Leotek EV series leds. Fortunately the Safetran mechanical bell lives on for now. Like Stillhouse Rd (which I filmed at last weekend), this is one of two crossings on the Mexico Sub (that I'm aware of) that have their bells to ring while the gates are down. However the bell here only rings from startup until the gates begin to rise. Despite that, it is sure nice to see a bell sequence like that on a KCS crossing. The train I caught here was the eastbound KCVN with a thundercab sd70ace leading. Overall, I'm happy to finally film this crossing in action. Hopefully I will try to film some more crossings on the Mexico Sub while I can before CP or CN takes over this line. This road is also known as State Highway F (or simply called Route F).
