First UP catch of 2022. This marks the very first time I have ventured out west into Kansas to film on the UP Kansas Sub. After filming Curtis Rd in Odessa, MO, Landon and I headed out west into Edwardsville, KS to film some UP trains on the Kansas Sub. We choose to film at 4th St because it was a crossing I wanted to film at since it had some older cantilevers from the MoPac days. In total we caught 2 trains, an eastbound coal train, and a westbound manifest with NS 1206 trailing. Crossing itself is an old MoPac install with some changes done by UP. For starts, this crossing used to have incandescent lights, and two mechanical bells (presumably wch mechanical bells according to the grainy streetview image on google maps from 2008). Sometime in 2009 the mechanical bell on the closest signal was replaced with a wch e bell while the far signal's bell was replaced sometime in 2011 as that was the year UP started to replace their incandescent lights with Electro Tech leds in the light frames. No clue what the gate lights this crossing had, but they was replaced in 2011 as well with the current Electro Tech gate lights as well. Lastly the gate mechanisms on both signals are newer wch gate mechs that replaced a pair of older wch gate mechs sometime after 2013 as google maps hasn't updated the streetview yet for this crossing. I will certainly be returning to the Kansas Sub at some point to film some of the other crossings in the Edwardsville area.
